Default Choppy Youtube on Leopard - 03-25-2009, 09:42 PM

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing choppy video with youtube/hulu and if anyone has suggestions how to fix it? Everything else, including downloaded videos through VLC and quicktime work fine, but youtube/hulu skip a few frames like every few seconds. Almost a fresh install, any help would be appreciated.

My video is choppy in any streaming service- youtube, iplayer, 4Od etc. Has anyone found a way to fix this? Its a real shame that you cant use this on OS X...

It's not really an OS X problem, but rather an Atom problem. Full-screen Flash video is choppy under any OS on a Mini 9. It was slightly more tolerable for me with XP installed, but I suspect that's only because Adobe spends more time optimizing their XP builds (highest number of users = biggest gains).

BBC website will stream news with no choppiness. Youtube is bad... even with a video fully streamed and replayed....

Hulu at full screen is tolerable if you have a decent internet connection, but it noticeably drops frames. Better to download the show and play it back in VLC.

Hey guys, I've got some tips for you.

First of all, make sure you are not watching the videos in high quality or even HD. The Atom processor is too slow to handle these. Normal quality videos are OK most of the time.

Yes, we all know Flash sucks on the Atom, so here is another solution I have for you: ClickToFlash. It's a plugin, which disables Flash on websites. This is a good thing most of the time, but how does this help? With ClickToFlash, you can also view YouTube videos as pure H264 videos through the QuickTime plugin. Just enable it in its preferences. This means way less CPU cycles are needed for your cute little Mini. Now, isn't that nice?

Download ClickToFlash today: rentzsch's clicktoflash at master - GitHub

Interesting. Will try when I get home. What about Hulu? Can you do a quick test for us?
