Meklort and Northmendo

You both have my sincere appreciation for sharing your knowledge with so many people on this board. After getting OSX running on my Mini 9, I had the misfortune of my Vista laptop, HP D5t, crashing. I tried to recover the OS but was unable to do it. Before reloading Vista from discs, I was going to try one of the modified OSX installs on it but favored the vanilla approach.

Through reading both of your responses and a lot of praying (well a little cussing, too), I got OSX running on the HP and while it didn't go as smoothly as the Dell install, everything except the webcam seems to be working as it should.....after using the same Dell EFI USB bootloader that I used for the Mini 9!

Your kexts and Northmendo's script loaded version 17 smoothly. I now have scrolling on BOTH my Mini 9 and the HP!

This is sooooo addictive.

Thanks and keep up the great work.

Meklort, you have out done yourself with V18.

I dropped off from this for a while now, but decided to pick it up after reading your latest change logs.

I love the fact that you have added a clicking delay adjustment now. This is near production quality now, imo. Only 'bugs' would be the odd jumping of the cursor to random positions when trying to tap to drag and the seemingly erratic cursor movements. It almost appears as if its becoming cpu intensive at moments or perhaps the cpu is doing something and the system forgets how to scroll about in that time. Also, perhaps the most important for me, the driver forgets that i have tap to click enabled on reboot. I have to always go in the pref pane and disable it, and re-enable it for it to function.

Disabling the touchpad while typing is a gold mine!! Thanks for that. If there is one piss off about the mini was that my thumbs would constantly brush the pad while typing, sending my focus point way off.

Great work thus far!

Edit: Just realized it also forgets my scroll settings on reboots. Small but really annoying bug.

I am sure that I have missed something in this thread but I have installed v 18 using the Touchpad_18 and I must have messed up the settings. I have everything turned off and the trackpad won't track; it is hard to pull the cursor across the screen. Any guidance on how to fix this?

btw, I can type this without screwing up typing. Absolutely brilliant!

Did you try changing any of the sliders in the pref pane before rebooting??

This is needed to initialize everything. If you have already rebooted and can not get there with the pad, plug in a usb mouse and navigate that way, then change a setting in the trackpad pref pane and reboot.

You should be good to go then.

Installed using the touchpad_18 method - made sure that I set the preferences before rebooting but have same issue as above. External mouse might not be required. If I use finger nails to move the cursor I can get enough control to use preferences to trigger the correct settings again.
I will check the helper app I think - might not be firing off as the preference pane has changed now . . . will advise. Nothing wrong once running though.

Edit: The touchpad_18 install (at least on my system) leaves the old helper app installed in /library/launchagents and this points to the old preference pane that no longer exists thus the new preference pan is not called on system start and thus not initialized.

Edit: Still have jerkiness on reboot though that goes away when pref pane is "touched"

Also having issues with scrolling settings not sticking after reboot. Have tried to remove the driver entirely but it doesn't appear to remove itself from the preferences pane and as a result I'm not able to install 17 (which is perfect)

If it kept my settings, v18 would be superb.

Default How to Install or Remove Version 18 or Higher - 06-14-2009, 03:37 PM

Here are chazzek's full instructions from page 10, edited for the renamed preference pane in version 18 and reorganized just a bit:

How to install meklort's touchpad driver and preference pane

Upgrade to DellEFI 1.1.

Open Terminal. Change to the folder you downloaded the files to. For most people, this is ~/Downloads, so enter:
Code:
cd ~/Downloads
If you've downloaded zip files, open the Downloads folder and double click on each file to unzip it.

To install the preference pane, launch agent, and driver:
Code:
sudo cp -rf Synaptics\ Trackpad.prefPane /Library/PreferencePanes/
sudo chmod +x /Library/PreferencePanes/Synaptics\ Trackpad.prefPane/Contents/Resources/preferenceHelper

sudo cp -rf com.meklort.ps2.helper.plist /Library/LaunchAgents/

sudo cp -rf /Extra/Mini9Ext/ApplePS2Controller.kext /Extra/ApplePS2Controller.kext.bak
sudo cp -rf ApplePS2Controller.kext /Extra/Mini9Ext/
open /Extra/UpdateExtra.app
Update extras and reboot.

How to upgrade to a new kext version

Open Terminal, cd to your Downloads directory, and unzip the files as above.

To upgrade the preference pane, launch agent, and driver
Code:
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/PreferencePanes/PS2PreferencePane.prefPane
sudo rm -rf /Library/PreferencePanes/Synaptics\ Trackpad.prefPane
sudo cp -rf Synaptics\ Trackpad.prefPane /Library/PreferencePanes/
sudo chmod +x /Library/PreferencePanes/Synaptics\ Trackpad.prefPane/Contents/Resources/preferenceHelper

sudo rm -rf /Library/LaunchAgents/com.meklort.ps2.helper.plist
sudo cp -rf com.meklort.ps2.helper.plist /Library/LaunchAgents/

sudo rm -rf /Extra/Mini9Ext/ApplePS2Controller.kext
sudo cp -rf ApplePS2Controller.kext /Extra/Mini9Ext/
open /Extra/UpdateExtra.app
Update extras and reboot.

How to remove and restore your system

Open Terminal and cd to your Downloads directory as above.

Code:
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/PreferencePanes/PS2PreferencePane.prefPane
sudo rm -rf /Library/PreferencePanes/Synaptics\ Trackpad.prefPane

sudo rm -f /Library/LaunchAgents/com.meklort.ps2.helper.plist

sudo rm -rf /Extra/Mini9Ext/ApplePS2Controller.kext
sudo cp -rf /Extra/ApplePS2Controller.kext.bak /Extra/Mini9Ext/ApplePS2Controller.kext
open /Extra/UpdateExtra.app
Update extras and reboot.

Terminal commands are all well and good; I noticed that 18 and 17 are located in different places, are the v17 removal commands around here (wondering if I have both versions installed still).

Nevermind, I'm an idiot...I think I see it there.

OK, don't get it. Ran removal terminal commands, rebooted. The items are not in the PreferencePanes folder in Libraries...but there's still a touchpad item in the system preferences. What am I doing wrong?

If the item is named "Synaptics Trackpad" or "PS2PreferencePane", you still have this installed somewhere. If the item is named "Trackpad" or something like that, you're looking at Apple's standard preference pane.
