Can you type the following in the terminal and tell me the output:

 kextstat | grep PS2

Also, what version of dellEFI are you on?

I think I'm having the same problem as Ottoman; put the .kext in the appropriate place, Update Extras, reboot, no scrolling. I'm on 1.2a5 and here's my kextstat | grep PS2 output:

The permissions and ownership of /Extra/MIni9Ext/ApplePS2something.kext are correct.

That kextstat output says you are running version 1.1.0 of the kext. You should be running 1.1.2. Somehow, the kext was not installed correctly.

I don't know if it's actually the 'sudo' that did it, since the app requests admin permissions anyway, but I ran

sudo open /Extra/UpdateExtra.app

and rebooted, and I'm now edge-scrolling.

All you need to do is copy over the kext (via sudo) and run the updater. You don't need to do anything related to the preference pane if you have already installed it and the helper.

ok. just to make sure - i use only this code in the folder i downloaded the new kext:

sudo mv /Extra/Mini9Ext/ApplePS2Controller.kext /Extra/ApplePS2Controller.kext.bak
sudo unzip ApplePS2Controller.kext.zip
sudo mv ApplePS2Controller.kext /Extra/Mini9Ext/
open /Extra/UpdateExtra.app

then run the updater and reboot.

one last question - when i first installed it made a folder called _MACOSX which contains the ps2 prefpane file in it. is that a temp folder or do i have to keep it there? thanks for bearing with me.

I'm not sure why it created the _MACOSX folder, but you don't need it.
That should be the correct sequence of commands to use the new kext (just remember to reboot and reset the apple preference pane sliders to the center)

thanks meklort, kext 6 is a lot smoother with general movement and scrolling. appreciate all your help.
