hello. i've been following this thread b/c i would like to use the horizontal and vertical scrolling while surfing the web like i did with ubuntu. i am a bit confused on how to do install only this. mainly do i need both kexts or just kext 3 and do i need the pref pane and helper app? i saw the instructions on the page before, that i can do. i just noticed that each file was downloaded a different number of times so i assume they are not all needed depending on what features you want to try. if someone can help me out i'd appreciate it. nice work meklort. thanks guys.

The latest kext (5) has side scrolling enable (vertical only). You need the preference pane if you want to enable tap to click or change the size of the scroll area. The helper (included with the pref pane) is needed to restore your preference once you log in.
So you need kext5 and the preference pane download.

thanks man. i downloaded the kext 5 and the prefpane/helper but in the instructions on the last step it says that UpdateExtra.app does not exist? after every other command line i pressed return and everything was ok. any idea where i am going wrong?

nevermind the last post, i ran it outside of terminal. i like the vertical scrolling on websites a lot. another question: do both the new prefpane and the mouse & keyboard default preference pane control speed/tap sensitivity?

THe only thing the old preference pane controls is the speed. The new preference pane will control everything including the speed, so hopefully there isn't a conflict with that.

Currently the following things work in the new pref pane:
Edge scrolling checkbox
Clicking checkbox
Dragging checkbox somewhat works, don't use it though because it's buggy.
SCrolling area slider (from 10% to 1%, theoretically at least).

What doesnt work:
Everything else

These are the defaults IF you do not install the pref pane + helper:
Edge scrolling enabled
Clicking disabled
Scroll area set to 5% (I believe)

meklort thanks for the clarification. the vertical scrolling is working great. the scrolling was really the only thing i missed from ubuntu. i disabled the dragging like you said and it seems more smooth now. working great, keep up the good work. can't wait to try out all the other touchpad improvements you're working on. thanks!

Well, good news. I'm posting an update that lets you control the trackpad speed, scroll speed, and fixes most of the mouse movement issues.
It's actually very usable now.

EDIT: my bad, I see it's up! Will test out, I uninstalled kext5 because the mouse movement was too inconsistent for me (aka not too responsive). Hope kext6 fixes that.

No matter what I do, I can't get it working.

I follow the instructions on page 10. I reboot and the scrolling doesn't work.

any help will be appreciated.
