kext 4 and 5 are the same movement wise, so there shouldn't be any difference.
These 4 enables absolute mode in the firmware, which means that I have to calculate the dx and dy in the kext. At the moment, the kext doesn't take into account the trackpad's size, which is why vertical is not the same as horizontal. It won't be a configuration option because the way it is now is a bug, and it'll be the way you want it in the end.

As for the built in preference pane, I was just going to disable that one (or ignore it anything it sends)

Update: Changed instances of cp -prf to cp -rf to fix some permissions problems, removed extraneous chowns.

Update: Added instructions to upgrade the driver.

How to install meklort's touchpad driver and preference pane

Upgrade to DellEFI 1.1.

Open Terminal. Change to the folder you downloaded the files to. For most people, this is ~/Downloads, so enter:
Code:
cd ~/Downloads
If you need to unzip the files enter the following commands. If they're already unzipped, skip it.
Code:
sudo unzip PS2PreferencePane_and_Helper.zip
sudo unzip ApplePS2Controller.kext.zip
To install the preference pane:
Code:
sudo cp -rf PS2PreferencePane.prefPane /System/Library/PreferencePanes/
sudo chmod +x /System/Library/PreferencePanes/PS2PreferencePane.prefPane/Contents/Resources/PS2PreferenceSetter
sudo cp -f com.meklort.ps2.helper.plist /Library/LaunchAgents/
To install the driver:
Code:
sudo cp -rf /Extra/Mini9Ext/ApplePS2Controller.kext /Extra/ApplePS2Controller.kext.bak
sudo cp -rf ApplePS2Controller.kext /Extra/Mini9Ext/
open /Extra/UpdateExtra.app
Update extras and reboot.

To remove both and restore your system to the DellEFI default driver:
Code:
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/PreferencePanes/PS2PreferencePane.prefPane
sudo rm -f /Library/LaunchAgents/com.meklort.ps2.helper.plist

sudo rm -rf /Extra/Mini9Ext/ApplePS2Controller.kext
sudo cp -rf /Extra/ApplePS2Controller.kext.bak /Extra/Mini9Ext/ApplePS2Controller.kext
open /Extra/UpdateExtra.app
Update extras and reboot.

How to upgrade to a new kext version

Open Terminal, cd to your Downloads directory, and unzip the files as above.

To upgrade the driver:
Code:
sudo rm -rf /Extra/Mini9Ext/ApplePS2Controller.kext
sudo cp -rf ApplePS2Controller.kext /Extra/Mini9Ext/
open /Extra/UpdateExtra.app
Update extras and reboot.

To upgrade the preference pane (this happens rarely):
Code:
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/PreferencePanes/PS2PreferencePane.prefPane
sudo cp -rf PS2PreferencePane.prefPane /System/Library/PreferencePanes/
sudo chmod +x /System/Library/PreferencePanes/PS2PreferencePane.prefPane/Contents/Resources/PS2PreferenceSetter

I followed chazzek's instructions to the letter and restart hanged at a black screen for a while.

So I force powered off and boot back into OS X, only to realize the touchpad and keyboard would not work...so I pull out my old Type11 USB stick and -f back into OS X, reinstalled DellEFI extensions and all's peachy again.

Didn't work for me. ops:

I've noticed that once and a while when you boot up, the touchpad wont work (but the keyboard will). I believe this is caused by a conflict in the kext with the apple preference pane.

I'm not sure why you didn't get it to work, but if you have a usb keyboard + mouse, could you try again and tell me the output of kextload | PS2 if are there any errors in system.log related to the ps2 kext.

Ok, figured out the problem.
The kext that I uploaded is not the full kext. It doesn't include the ps2 controller or the keyboard driver. You have to copy it over the old kext. I'll upload a new kext with all of the required files.

EDIT: new kext is uploaded with all of the required files (you still need the preference pane and helper).

Ottoman: pull out the Type11 usb key and boot from the partition, choose the hd and boot with -f. Reinstall DellEFI extensions and reboot, should work again, that did it for me.

meklort: ahhhhaa, figured something was wrong. Good to know it was fixed.

Sorry, I made the same mistake again. Looks like meklort uploaded the full kext though, so my instructions now work.
