THANK YOU! Now that I have accomplished a "proof of concept" on my Dell Mini 9 and am really happy with how it's running OSX off an external hard drive, I'm looking forward to replicating my experience on a Runcore SSD which I have arriving in a few days (ordered some time ago). My question to the DellEFI experts now is, does running DellEFI touch anything in the Mini 9 hardware, like the BIOS or anything, or does it only modify files stored on the boot device? The reason I'm asking is because it seems to me that for those of us who have a Runcore and a real Mac handy, this process could be SO easy. Forget about all those long and convoluted sets of instructions, just plug the Runcore into the Mac with the micro-USB port, install OSX, then boot off it (yes, before anyone claims otherwise, modern Macs can boot USB you just need to Google a little) and run DellEFI...then stick the SSD in the Mini and be done. No second USB stick, no EBIOS errors, no syslinux, no complexity. However the reason I didn't try doing this myself was that I was scared to run DellEFI on my real Mac while booted off my external USB drive, because I didn't know if it was going to do something weird to my Mac's firmware. So can anyone tell me if this method I'm proposing is sound? |
