just tried to install the final release - after rebooting the first time, it trashed my mini: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power..."

I guess I have to install it new then - really wonder why this is happening

When I had that problem, it had to do with the dsdt.aml file... If you have another bootable OSX partition, you can just place a new copy into the root folder and it should start up properly the next time.

EDIT: I guess I shouldn't assume that you followed the instructions on the 1.1 release. You did let it delete the old dsdt.aml file first, right? If you told it not to, then that's what caused the problem.

What version of DellEFI did you have previously (one of the betas or 1.07.1)? If you had 1.07.1, the reason why it takes a while to calculate is because 1.07.1 never actually reads information from the battery and just guesses a number quickly.

And just a though about the dsdt, Why don't we make a copy of the unpatched dsdt file and put it at /dsdt.orig.aml or /.dellefi/dsdt.orig.aml so that a reboot it not required to recover (if the file exists)? We would need to verify that the dsdt file wasn't patched to begin with, but that shouldn't be too hard to do (I can modify the patcher to detect if its been patched or not).
Yeah, my battery was fully discharged... i was running 1.1b3 last... Like I said, it appears to be calculating everything just fine now... it was just that initial wait time that seemed long. If I followed you correctly about the dsdt.aml file, it sounds like a good idea and would avoid some headaches in the future.

yes, I told it to delete the file - upon reboot then, it crashed! did what you said - copied over another dsdt.aml file - was able then to start the mini again - upon calling DellEFI again and letting delete the file again, the same all over again - I'm unable to start the mini again

Any real difference between 1.1RC1 and 1.1Final? I installed RC1 (although I'm booting from a USB external drive - Rencore, please hurry up) and everything seems to be working well. I'm trying to do a more systematic test to hopefully provide more detailed information for any issues that might pop up.

Excellent job - thank you for all of your effort. Hopefully I can return the favor with some structured testing.

Okay, so... DellEFI 1.1 told you that you needed to delete the dsdt.aml file... you said okay... and then it rebooted your computer and it crashed? That's odd. It should prompt you like this:

You need to delete your dsdt.aml file - okay - reboot. After reboot, you have to run DellEFI again and tell it to replace everything, and create a custom dsdt.aml file. It'll do it's thing and reboot again... at this point you should have a happy go lucky dell mini 9 running the latest 1.1 version of DellEFI.

Where specifically during this process, did your computer crash? If it's crashing upon reboot after just deleting your dsdt.aml file, that would be really strange, but I'd say give it a shot without deleting the dsdt.aml file... if you can.

I think the DellEFI 1.1 is causing some problems with the sound. I first installed the 1.07.1 when I intially did the OS X install, and it worked fine. Then I saw the posting for 1.1 and decided to give it a go... But I think I noticed a slight downgrade in performance, and definitely noise with the sound. I reinstalled 1.07.1 and the problems went away...

okay well Im not an expert and to tell the truth do not now really what I did, but I followed the instructions for upgrading exactly as they said. And then when It tried to reboot after the new DellEFI 1.1 it would just show the gray loading screen and not boot. After a few tries I put my Type11 usb installer in and booted to my OSX driver from it with the 9f option and my desktop booted and then I installed the new DellEFI 1.1 again and it worked

@bmaltais

Thanks chap. After following the prompt to remove the old dsdt.aml file my system wouldn't reboot so I had to powercycle. After that the upgrade went fine.

One minor observation so far is that I appear to be unable to switch bluetooth off (the on box is checked but greyed out) although I can switch discoverable on / off. This isn't an issue for me as I leave bluetooth on all the time.

Otherwise everything else seems great. I'm really impressed, and I love the way I've been able to upgrade without ever having to do a complete new install. Things have certainly moved forward since my initial type11/boot123v6 DVD install back in December.

Respect and regards to you and the rest of the team for all your continued efforts.
