And why not just undo the thing that you have changed? If you can't access the file, you can always boot the installation DVD, open Terminal, mount disk0s1 or disk0s2 and change the file with nano. Good luck.
Thanks, nobugs - looks like I'll need to remake my DellMiniBoot thumbdrive, which shouldn't take long; I can also pull the SSD out, connect it to my MacPro and backup or edit files, so I'm not as panicky as I was. This will have to wait until I get home tonight...

Is it safe to repair disk permissions via disk utility on a successfully Mac OSX installed mini? This may be a really stupid question so I apologize in advance if it is.

Here's the latest, for those willing to have a look. I removed the SSD and mounted it on my MacPro.

The one procedure I had edited before - (quoting the instructions below) I restored to its original status, and now I have the countdown back.

*****
1. In root directory, go to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
2. Copy com.apple.Boot.plist to the desktop, then open it with TextEdit
3. Replace the following

<key>Timeout</key>
<string>5</string>

with

<key>Quiet Boot</key>
<string>Yes</string>

and save it.
*****

This now allows me to boot with -v and -s; links to the final hanging screens of each are linked below.

While I had the SSD out, I backed it up, doing both a drag-and-drop and Super Duper, so I'm a little relieved there.
I tried removing dsdt.aml from the SSD, hoping it would boot and let me run EFI 1.1 again, but no luck. I copied it back.

It turns out my old 1.07 thumbdrive was still intact, so I'm going to make another OS X install thumb so I can run Terminal and other utilities, but I'm not sure where that will get me.

Any advice is appreciated, and thanks for your patience - sorry about the blurry screen shots. Hope one helps.

I've noticed something. Why does AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement start? Doesn't this cause problems on most Hackintoshs? Something like NullCPUPowerManagement.kext or deleting would prevent this.

And I don't see AppleDecrypt anywhere. Maybe it's not loaded.

I hope this helps.

Thats exactly the same error I had.

I posted my screenshot before, here it is again for comparison

This is not the whole bootup message. apple decrypt could have been loaded on the previous screen.

Can you take a video of the machine booting up to see if there are any other issues before this one?

Here's a video of two boot cycles up to the point where they seem to hang, using -v and -s.

You'll need QuickTime. Thanks for looking...

I too am in the same boat as many of the users, I just updated a 1.07 Dellefi with the 1.1 final and now I am stuck at the Grey Screen of never going to boot. For the record this was a 10.5.6 install with all updates.

Any help, explicit as I am a relative newbie for the MAC OS and will need a little hand holding, has anyone had any luck with the terminal method that someone was going to try on an earlier page

Just tried to reinstall DellEFI 1.1 again. This time I used TERMINAL to remove dsdt by entering
"sudo rm /dsdt.aml" . . . . then I went back and did the normal 1.1 install, including using DellEFI
to remove dsdt (just in case the terminal effort did not succeed); and this time it worked.
Everything (including screen saver, display sleep, deep sleep) now operates as programmed.
Don't know if this will work for you, but it is worth a try. Good luck.

If so I will need some instructions on how to get to the terminal

Again this forum is really awesome, and the community has been super helpful!

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

As always I am humbled by all the hard work you guys do. Everything works wonderfully. I had some issues with my big battery and the battery icon. I reinstalled my 1.1 and rebooted. Everything seems to work fine. I have been testing with my stock battery and my BIG battery. So far so good. Still have the disco lights but from reading all the posts I know its an issue with the mini BIOS and the 8 cell battery. You guys are amazing and thanks for everything. Mini madness is blowing up in Denver! Everyone wants one now once they see mine running. Thanks to merklot as well

Keep it up guys

Blown away and very happy

Z

Thanks-

Z
