Default Mini doesn't boot into OS X, "boot1: startupfile" - 03-21-2009, 06:49 PM

My Mini 9 was running OS X perfectly fine when one day it decided to stop booting into Leopard.

When it completes it's bios load and boot cycle, I get left with:

Code:
boot0: GPT
boot0: HFS+
boot0: booting
boot0: done
boot1: startupfile_
and that's it. It doesn't take any input from the keyboard.

I did a search on the forums for this but could only find some advice about sorting this out where the guy had quad-boot of OS's and so they repaired it with a MBR to match -not what I have.

Any help gratefully received!

Thanks
B

Try booting up with DellMiniBoot, same as if it were the first time after an install. Nothing will be changed, but if that works then you could try reinstalling DellEFI to fix it.

I've only just been able to get back to this... my old external HD I was using died and had to wait for a replacement to arrive in the mail.

Hmm, I've used the HD (was using that method) to boot into leopard... in side the desktop I've re-run DellEFI but when I restart it's not repaired the boot loader

Any thoughts?

Many thanks!
Ben

1) Open Terminal
2) sudo diskutil eraseVolume "HFS+" "EFI" /dev/disk0s1 (verify the disk0s1 first!)

Fixed the "boot1: startupfile" issue for me when updating from the initial install of Boot132 to DellEFI 1.1 and then later to 1.2b5.
