Default Re: Upgrading to a Runcore SSD using OSX - 04-24-2009, 10:27 PM

This method worked for me, but I used Carbon Copy Cloner instead of SuperDuper! because of the following error mentioned above:
Quote:
I have been trying to do this but SuperDuper! keep quitting just when it's supposed to start the copy.
For some reason, I have never gotten SuperDuper! to work (at least in the non-registered mode :? )
Carbon Copy Cloner took forever (2h?) to copy 10.7GB (perhaps I should have done a clean install, but didnt want to all my other programs as well, unless I had to)

I also experienced this error:
Quote:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
Operating System not found
I used dellminiboot to boot into the RunCore (had to try this a couple of times before I saw the RunCore listed), and then ran DellEFI to install the bootloader onto the RunCore once the operating system installed.

Everything seems to be working (like it did before)!
I think I'm almost ready to experiment with Meklort's amazing Touchpad driver

put both ssd's on my mac pro , formated the new drive , ran super duper then put the new ssd in the dell mini then booted from the boot cd to boot the ssd. copied dellefi and ran it and whola ! all files were there including office and all my other knick knacks .....

Choose Custom Install and then choose Reinstall Bootloader, Install Dell Mini 9 Extensions, Hide DellEFI files and Fix Bluetooth. Press install.

Restart the Hackintoshed Mini[/list]
Hi. I cloned my drive to my RunCore 64GB using Carbon Copy cloner. I need help though...
that's as far as I got. How do you "boot the computer using your 1.07.01 DellEFI USB"? And importantly, how do you create that USB?
Can someone please tell me how to, or point me to the directions of how to, create that USB? I'm a bit of a noob to all of this so explicit instructions would be very helpful.
I followed the instructions in Part F.2 to F.4 of the How To: Install Mac OSX Dell EFI Method to create the USB. However, when I have this inserted in the USB port of the mini9 and press 0 while booting it does not find the USB. As well, when I have my new cloned SSD in the mini9 while trying this it says "operating system found".

Clearly, I need some help. :?

Much appreciated!

Seriously, no help on this? Awesome!
So, I have the dellmini bootloader on a drive. I made it bootable but didn't think I had because, as I finally figured out, I hadn't gone in and enabled USB Legacy Support. Once I did that I could boot from the USB drive.
It autoran a bit and then told me to select the foreign operating system. I think I hit escape and then, at the next screen typed in 81 and enter. (I think that's the order of events, sorry, it's been a few hours).
Eventually the mini booted up with the grey apple and the spinning gear below it. It eventually timed out and I got the "no" symbol (like the no smoking sign) over part of the apple.

Any thoughts or help? I feel like I'm close but can't figure it out yet.
Thanks.

Here is what I did swapping from 16GB RC to a 32GB,

-Cloned the new 32GB RunCore with Carbon Copy Cloner
-I installed OS X on a small USB Hard Drive loaded with DellEFI 1.2a5
-Installed new 32Gb RunCore in Dell Mini
-Plugged in USB hard drive
-Enable USB legacy
-Hit "0" a boot screen to boot into USB
-It loaded/booted the internal SSD
-Re-intalled DellEFI on internal SSD and now all is good.

Default HELP PLEASE!! - 05-08-2009, 02:21 AM

Here's where I'm at...

I cloned my 16GB stock SSD to a RunCore 64GB SSD with Carbon Copy Cloner.

Boot from usb after following steps outlined in Part F Section 2-4 here... how-to-install-mac-os-x-dellefi-method-t3925.html

It runs through some script. Then dots all along the screen for 2 to 3 rows then a quick error message says something about com.apple.boot.plist
Then it goes to:
Darwin/x86 boot v5.0.132_dfe_r146_Chameleon_pre
hd (0, 1)
Press Enter to start up the foreign OS

I press escape (I had previously tried pressing Enter but that seemed to go nowhere)

Then I get a screen that asks me to Enter two-digit hexadecimal boot device [80]:

I enter 81

It says hd (1, 1) Runcore SSD
Press Enter to start up Darwin/x86 with no options, or you can:
Type -v and press Enter to start up with disgnostic messages
Type ? And press Enter to learn about advanced startup options

I press enter and get the grey apple logo screen with nothing happening.
Hangs on that screen

Did all of that again and then at the last, instead of hitting enter I typed -x
It says Loading Darwin x86
Then I got the grey apple logo screen with the spinning gear beneath it.
Spins and then goes to the "no" (no smoking) sign and that's it.

Did all of that again and then at the last, instead of hitting enter I typed -x
It says Loading Darwin x86
Then I got the grey apple logo screen with noting happening. Just hung there.

Did all of that again and then at the last, instead of hitting enter I typed -v
It ran a bunch of script and then paused for a while with the last line reading AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement: initialization complete.
Then it said Still waiting for root device. It repeated that again. And again. And again.

Did all of that again and then at the last, instead of hitting enter I typed ?
It says Loading Darwin x86
Then I got the grey apple logo screen with the spinning gear until the "no" sign again.

Again, I'm inching closer (at least I feel like I am) but can't quite get there.
Can someone help out please?

Along with instructions, or the location of instructions, can someone please tell me how to make the bootable USB drive?
I made the bootable USB drive with the dellminiboot on it (downloaded dellminiboot8-1.02b1dd.zip, extracted it, and loaded the dellefi.img file onto the usb drive as per the instructions on the above linked page.
However, I don't have the DellEFI application loaded onto a USB drive. Is it supposed to be? On the same drive as the dellefi.img from the dellminiboot download? How do you get it on there?
And once that thing is built is it easy to boot from (just like the steps I've already done)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Default fixed I think! - 05-08-2009, 06:03 AM

Okay, I think I fixed it. I read saltatory's response (in my other thread) and went back over the whole thing. I realized that I hadn't followed this part of the directions... Using OSX Disk Utility, partition the RUNCORE SSD Using "MAC OS Extended Journaled". Before starting choose options and GUID. Partition with the number of drives you wish. I used one partition.

It looks like everything is working appropriately now.
Thanks saltatory for your post. Though not full of information it was the catalyst for me to go back over everything. Thank you.

I notice one difference in the startup (other than the seemingly increased speed )... It seems there is a difference in the black screen that flashes between the grey apple and the login screen. It used to just say Loading Darwin x86. Now it seems to say more (about 3 or 4 lines of text) and then has Loading darwin x86. Seems to work okay though. I'm just wondering if everyone else has encountered this.

Regards,
dsas
