What did you use to paint the lid? Is there a protective coating on it?

The paint looks good. it looks like it wont get as much fingerprints as the glossy original black. Maybe a laser cut? How would I go about getting my lid laser cut? Would I have to know somebody that does that?

How would one go about making a DXF file?

I actually have everything needed to mod the Dell Mini 10v lid, but found that the dell logo appears to be an inset piece of plastic and larger than the apple. It doesn't look easy to do.

The way I would do it is trace the opening I want, cut it out (exacto knife, coping saw, heated knife, whatever) a little undersized, then finish it to size with a dremel and a fine grit (don't want it to cut TOO fast) drum and various scraps of dowel and so forth with sandpaper wrapped around them. Take you time and you'll get a good clean edge and it will still take less time than driving to the local water cutting emporium, to say nothing of the price. Let's face it - after you finish the job, no one is ever going to look that closely at it again!

But I have plans in another direction. Snob appeal aside, it makes no sense to label a small, easily absconded with item with labels that ENHANCE its value. I am thinking of making a sticker for mine, to cover the Dell logo, saying something like:
Hangchow Electronics and
Animal Byproducts Co-op.
20MB Hard Drive.

Man, this one's the sweetest to me!

How did you matte the lid? Sand paper, paint over? Please share!

i want to do the same (eventually the logo too), paint it matte black + the palm rest. With my trackpad mod, it will look ├╝ber-cool !

So I know some guys at a sign shop in Kansas, I'll see if
A. They can laser cut Apple logos for people
B. How much it would cost
C. If I could get a discount for all the members of MDM

UPDATE: Well, they don't have a laser cutter BUT they will make CUSTOM stickers for close-to-free for the MDM community.... I'm not quite sure how to go about this but I'll figure something out

Check out my guide for installing SL 10.6.2 on your brand new Dell Mini 10v!
