Default Sleep not working in OSX install [SOLVED] - 03-11-2009, 09:56 PM

I installed OSX, and updated to 10.5.6 with no hitch. I ran the DellEFI, however my sleep does not work. Every time the computer falls to sleep, I have no cursor, and the computer only can be shut down by holding the power button....any ideas of things to check to possible fix? I have a 16GB (dell) SSD and 2GB RAM. If I could fix without doing a full re-install would be great. Thanks

Micah

Have you disabled legacy usb support in bios? You need to in order for sleep to work.

Wow thanks. That actually fixed it perfectly. The tutorial starts out by making sure that USB legacy mode is enabled. When i changed it to "disable", sleep works fine. Anything wrong with putting it to sleep? For instance if I am going to put it in my backpack and then hop back on in a couple hours? Does it work like a normal laptop that goes to sleep? Thanks again for your help!

It needs to be enabled in order to boot from a USB device, so the instructions are correct in calling for it to be enabled to start.

Hey,
I did the exact same thing as tastewar, for exactly the same reason. So I disabled the USB Legacy support and my Mini9 now wakes from sleep like it's supposed to.

Thanks!! My Mini9 is now 100%!

I didn't disable USB Legacy support any sleep worked fine. Is that strange? I did have an issue with restarting after sleep where if I put it to sleep and then woke it up and restarted, it would hang, but a forced power off and reboot would fix it. I disabled legacy USB support anyway now.

The 'no clean restart after sleep' has been reported multiple times, and I don't think it has anything to do with legacy usb. If you had no sleep problems with legacy usb enabled, then there's no particular reason to disable it. You would be in the minority, I think, but that has also been reported before.

A workaround on the restart is to do a shutdown, then simply power up. I believe I am not alone in that working for me.

Actually, I rarely restart, and the hangs after sleep have almost exclusively happened in boots after shut down, but not every time. Just an annoyance that I hope will be fixed in a future EFI release. Still amazed at this thing.

I have the 'opposite' problem - it won't restart if i use the restart option in the OS itself. Screen blanks but power light never goes off and it doesn't restart...

when I turn it back on I've gotten error msgs before too!

But sleep is fine, and if I turn off and turn on its fine, so I don't care
