Post Anyone having issues loading Parallels Desktop 4 - 03-11-2009, 02:35 AM

Has anyone successfully loaded Parallels desktop 4 on their Dell Mini 9 running OSX 10.5.6?

When I try to load my retail copy I get the following error:

Parallels desktop 4 can only be installed on systems supporting hardware virtualization

Mayday anyone seen this - got it working - know a work around?

I need this to load XP to use Exchange for work cause they dont allow OSX .... Any help would be amazing appreciated

Thanks-

Z

If you can find a work around, you'll be the first. Parallels v3 is the last one that will run on the Mini.

Check this thread: mini-+-osx-+-virtualization-=--t4277.html

It explains the problem of V3 vs V4.

Some folks have had good luck with Virtual Box from Sun which is free.

I hacked the installer on Parallels 4 to get it to install. It still won't run. It's physically hard coded to use VT-x and just cannot run without it. Once you've gotten it installed, it's all kinds of confused over what's wrong, it doesn't do any more checking, it just assumes that if it got this far, you must have VT-x..
What's screwy is the z series Atoms do have VT-x, but the superior N series that we use don't have it.. That's a real shame.

After reading about the incompatibility of Parallels 4.0 I just picked up a copy of 3.0. I just tried to install Parallels 3.0 on my 10V with 10.6.1 but I got an error message saying "You can't use this version of the Application Parallels Desktop with this version of Mac OS X"

Any assistance appreciated.

Since the current version is 4.x and even 4.0 came out before SL I doubt 3.x would ever be updated to work. It does run on 10.5.8.
