I'd encourage you to take a look at this post:
It's really just a matter of following the steps and then trimming it down properly. Yes, you should start over fresh with one of the wonderful walkthroughs.

UPDATE TO MY ISSUE!!
I noticed today that when booting with TYPE 11, and hitting "esc" at the boot prompt, the choices to select 80 for "First HD" and 81 for "Second HD." I chose 80 but it did not show my partition that I had OS X stored on. I humored myself and chose 81 "Second HD" and it showed my partition that I named "OS X" in Disk Utility. Now whenever I chose to boot from HD, it always gives the "Operating System Not Found" error listed in the original post.
Have any ideas? It almost seems that my hard drive has split into 2, but I have reformatted numerous times from Disk Utility. I have attached a link below of an image of the script I am receiving on initial boot from hard drive.

The DellEFI application installs the correct kexts (and other items) to make the retail OS X DVD install work properly on the Mini 9. This allows you to use software update without worrying about your installation becoming ruined (like you would have with other methods of installing a hackintosh).
The DellEFI application is your friend with the retail install.
