Start fresh with the DellEFI method, it is the most current and best supported method. Let us know if you have issues after trying that.

I think the problem is that you are installing Leopard with the DELL Diagnostics Partition still on the disk and because of this you boot with 81 and not 80, the one I used.
DELL installs a hidden partition, about 40Mb, to boot from it and run a few diagnostics.
The next procedure will delete all data in the hard disk.
* Boot from DellMiniBoot, swap to Leopard Disk and then launch Disk Utility, check if there is any partition, to be sure go to the Partition tab and select 1, so any other partition will be deleted, now reinstall Leopard, install 10.5.6 combo and the run DellEFI. With all this you should be fine and be able to boot without DellMiniBoot.

I am recommending that people do not use the DellEFI app included in the ISO but instead download it directly from the internet. There seems to be a lot of people getting corrupted apps which prevent them from getting the install to work correctly.
The failing installer isn't all that uncommon, but I am wondering whether there is any particular way to keep it from failing. In the meantime, I would actually recommend trying the v8.01 ISO instead for installation, I know you won't get all the fancy feature on the first boot, but it couldn't hurt to try it that way. That's how I installed 10.5.6 the first time, since v8.02b1 wasn't out yet.
