I didn't run into any issues either. Just ran all of the updates that were available and I am still good to go. I believe that by hard reboot, the OP meant that all of the updates installed fine and that it never truly restarted like it should have. I ran into this too... just power off manually after the system tries to restart and then power back on.

Just one of the many "isms" of OSX on the mini.

Hardware, yes. Software, yes. Code - Why do you think I'm here?

Now here is something which I have been pulling my hair out over. I had problems with the wifi not working. I tried following everyone's instructions and checked the BIOS. I've installed the DELL EFI several times and even reinstalled
three times. Now here is something I found weird to solve my problem of the wifi not working. Luckily I still
had my Windows XP on my old 8GB SSD which I packed away.

I put it back in the slot and booted off of it. In Windows, I held the Fn and the 3 key which it brought up the Wifi
Enable or Disable Function. Right there, I remember the last thing I had setup in windows was I disabled the wifi
because I wasn't using it at that time.

So in short, if you are pulling your hair out like I did, boot to windows and make sure you had wifi enabled. For some
strange reason, if you disabled it like how I did. You'll probably struggle and have a hard time trying to figure out
how to enable it. Maybe there is another way to bring it up but that solution was the only thing that worked for me

Good luck to all.

Good point, while I never put Windows on mine I do think I might have played with this in Linux (which I messed up in the middle of it updating and right now I don't have an EXT CD player so no restoring either), I might try turning it off in BIOS and back on if that doesn't work maybe I will have to stick some Win on the orig 4GB SSD, cause this does sound like something that it could be since Sys config sees the card, however I am puzzled why OS would be able to ctrl it in a way where it would stay when the OS is removed?!

Anyone have more ideas/info on this?

The OS can send a command to the hardware which "sticks" (i.e. not affected by reboot), so you must send another command to get the hardware into the other mode. It's simply that nobody has written the utilities to run under MacOS to do this. Or perhaps also the drivers don't support applications sending the command either (likely requires support at both levels).
