Default Time Machine 10.5.6 & SMB Shares - 03-02-2009, 10:28 PM

Has anyone managed to get a Mini9 with 10.5.6 & TIme Machine working over a windows share from WinXP?

I've done:

defaults write TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1

touch /Volumes/OSX_Backup/
(OSX_Backup is my mounted share)

it seems nothing I do makes anything appear in Time Machine, has anyone else got this config working on 10.5.6, all the articles I can find are from 2007/early 2008 and I'm wondering if Apple has done something to disable this trick.

If I'm not mistaken, the "defaults write TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1" just enables the ability for Time Machine to use AirDisks/remote drives; the drive, however, still have to be formatted for use with Time Machine (e.g. Mac OS Journaled or FAT32, I believe). I'm pretty sure Time Machine cannot back up to SMB NTFS shares.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!
