I believe everyone gets the "Com.apple" error as its a problem with Darwin boot, but as long as you get to the menu you are fine. This is where you swap out the OS X disc and boot to 9f for your external DVD. Then continue on with the installation

I'm booting from a 10.5.6 retail DVD I bought today - for obvious reasons that's all they're selling now. (trying to keep this as morally on the up-and-up as possible)
I'll try it again tonight from a dual memory stick strategy rather than going with this external DVD - it craps out on the OSX disc - it's an old Lacie housing with a DVD drive in it, and I think that it's causing the problems.
Thanks for the help and prompt response!
