Default DellEFI 1.1 beta 2 - 02-28-2009, 11:03 PM

OK, I think the alpha version is now ready for some beta testing by a larger base of users. What is new in v1.1 since v1.07.1:

- Autopatch of GMA950 and Framebuffer kext. This way we not longer need to distribute them with DellEFI. DellEFI will simply use the ones from /System/Library/Extensions and apply the required patch on the fly in /Extra.
- Use original 10.5.6 IOGraphicsFamily and IONDRVSupport installed on the Mini instead of the old Tiger ones. No need to distribute them anymore in DellEFI
- Use a freshly compiled copy of clamshell.kext in /Extra instead of the bloated one in local extension folder
- Use a single ApplePS2Controller.kext that will contain the modified ApplePS2Keyboard instead of installing a seperate ApplePS2Keyboard.kext
- Implement EFI based GMA and Audio strings so we can remove Natit and HDAEnabler. Result in faster boot, cleaner install.
- New Dell Mini 9 specific dsdt.aml patcher to fix some non ACPI compliant voltage reporting so we get more accurate expected battery time.
- New AppleACPIBatteryManager extention to go along with the new patched dsdt.aml
- Ability to use local 10.5.6 IO80211Familly by applying on the fly patch to it
- Replace Broadcom Ethernet drivers with proper Realtek1000 kext
- Install new Mini9 specific color profile for you to use instead of default one
- Only the old version of AppleIntelFrameBuffer is installed when you want "mirror with artifacts". The GMA950 kext have nothing to do with it working.
- Changed the Extensions1 folder name to Mini9Ext and updated the utility UpdateExtra.
- Minor installation logic change to make all of the above install properly

The beta installation package can be found here: http://mydellmini.googlecode.com/files/DellEFI1.1b2.zip

To update simply run the installer again. It will pick the right options out of the box to either do a fresh install or an upgrade. It will also clean-up the old files at the same time.

Remember that this is the 1st beta release so make sure you have a good backup and are ready to take the heat!

All feedback is welcome.

A BIG THANK to meklort for all his amazing work. Without him we would not have moved this far!!! Meklort I don't know what you do for a living (maybe you work at Apple ;-)) but you know your stuff!

UPDATE:

Beta 2 fix an issue with not being able to update DSDTPatcher code and some logic with Quiet Boot not sticking after the upgrade process.

Well, I just tried the new one to verify that it works, and it installed without any problems.

To anyone who tries the beta:
Could you please report any issues with the battery meter, such as inaccuracies it time remaining till discharge.
Also, any issues with the networking driver and PS2 driver would be helpful too.

Oh, and I'm a student (although If apple wants to hire me....)

The time remaining appears completely wrong. My battery is almost dead and it says I have 3 hrs 17 min remaining and when it plugged in it says 10 hours till its fully charged. It worked on Alpha 1.

Thanks for any help!

The time to charge is broken, I still need to fix it. (I just added some code that guesses it, it'll be fixed soon)

Could you open the system profiler (/Applications/Utilities/System Profiler) and select the Power option on the left and tell me what information it gives you.

Could you also tell me what bios version you are on and send me the dsdt.aml file.

It looks like the dsdt.aml file isn't getting updated for you. Try rerunning dellefi, remove the dsdlt.aml, reboot, and rerun it to install the dsdt file again, then reboot a final time.

EDIT: The way to tell if you are using the new dsdt file is if the "Voltage (mV):" property in system profile does NOT say 11100.

Almost look like your dsdt.aml is patched wrong... Give this a try. Delete your dsdt.aml, reboot then run DellEFI again.
