Default OSX Install to 32GB Runcore - 02-27-2009, 11:22 PM

I have read a bit about installing OSX, but haven't come across this possibility yet. I have a 32GB Runcore SSD. Can I pull it from my Mini 9 and use the Micro USB cable to have it show as a drive on another Windows XP computer, then install OSX directly to it? Is this possible? I would be using an OSX image ideally, but could make a DVD if necassary.

Thanks

Interesting question. I am interested in hearing if this is possible. I just ordered a 16gb runcore (when it will actually ship I have no idea) and that could potentially make installation much easier.

I dont know about doing this with a PC, but I installed OSX onto my 64GB Runcore by connecting it to my mac mini via USB. I then set it up and customized it as I wanted and when I was done I popped it into my DellMini9 and booted with v7.7 and the ran DellEFI 1.04 to update and everything is golden.

You will need a Mac to do it. The SSD has to be formatted in the Mac OS extended partition that is only possible using Disk Util on the Mac. Search the forum, there are threads by people who have done that.

Just go to an Apple store with your Runcore and OSX Disc and do it while no one is watching. Be very discreet.

The media test error is because its trying to boot off of the network aka pxe boot (PXE - pre(boot) execution envitronment). Make sure you have legacy usb support enabled.
