Re: wifi drops intermittently - 02-25-2009, 07:31 PM
yah, i meant what you meant by 'drop,' kate. the signal drops, i can't turn the airport back on from the menu or from the pref pane, etc. nothing (i know how) to do except restart, and sometimes it takes a few restarts.
also, i already have an 'open' network with only mac address blocking, and this problem still occurs. and removing airport preferences, etc., doesn't seem to do anything.
finally, this seems to happen to me the most after the laptop has been on (sleeping, usually) for a long time. however, i haven't had the problem too often since being on dellefi 220.127.116.11.

Just a quick update note on the weirdness on this issue. Last week I unscrewed/removed the card, checked the connector and re-installed it, after that everything worked perfectly for a couple of days then went downhill to the point where WiFi would only stay on for about 10-20 seconds max. Yesterday I again unscrewed/removed/re-installed the card and guess what, everything was fine again last night 2+ hours of usage, no disconnects/issues even with video streaming via SMB/VLC Media Player & FrontRow.
This seems to rule out heat issues & sw issues. What puzzles me is the card is screwed down and cant move, the machine hasn't been bumped or jostled so its difficult to see it as a mechanical issue. Its almost like over time something is building up that causes it to fail after a while.
