That's a fair point you make and only time will tell. However, as an owner of a variety of Apple products the Mini 9 fills a gap for me which Apple won't address.

Just like sircharles, I tend to use my mini for light duties, mainly for browsing and emailing on the sofa at home and when I'm away on a trip for watching movies, listening to tunes and uploading my holidays snaps. I'll occasionally use it to upload some SD video but I generally leave the heavy stuff for my MBP.

I do hope Apple won't make too big a song and dance about the mini 9 and this forum, but they just might. Even then it won't be the end of the world because all the work has pretty much been done by the team in regards to OS X. Just make sure you've got backups of the latest type11/Boot123 and the Dell EFI 1.07.1

Dell Mini 9 2GB 64GB RunCore SSD BT 1.3MP 10.5.8 A05 NBI .8.3 RC3
MBP 2.4 C2D 4GB 160GB 10.6.2
Macmin 2.53 C2D 4GB 320GB 10.6.2
Macmini 1.83 CD 1GB 80GB 10.6.2
iPhone 3Gs 32GB; 2*PS3 (320/40GB + PlayTV); Wii; PS2; PSP Phat; PSP3000

An interesting follow-up on ZDNet:

Dell Mini 9
OS X 10.5.6

After reading that article, my guess is Apple's answer is "buy an iPhone and lots of apps from our AppStore! You dont need a "huge" netbook and keyboard!"

Getting an iPad

I am joining the bandwagon (well partially). I got a Eee PC a while ago and hacked it to run OS X but it was missing some functions that I really wanted, specifically sound. About a week ago I saw the chart listing netbooks compatibility with OS X and then started my search for either a Wind or Mini 9. I ultimately decided on the Mini 9, which I ordered two days ago. It has a ship date of 3/12 and I am waiting anxiously for it to arrive. I'm sure I'll have some questions in the future so, in advance, I appreciate the help.

Well, I use Apple products since my first Mac LC (1991?) - I got a MacBook 15" and a MacMini as a TV-Box. And a couple of iPhones and iPods. So yes, Apple did earn some money on me - not to mention the $100.000+ we spent on Apple hardwwre in the office I nearly bought a MacBook Air but just couldnĀ“t find enough reasons to spent $1600 for a "low-end" MacBook Pro. And still: I would imediately spend up to $700 for a Apple "netbook". IMHO Apple is already developing a "MacBook Mini" - they should...!

DELL Mini9 - 2GB RAM - 64GB SSD - BIOS A04 - German Mac OS 10.5.6 (installed via DellEFI 1.07) - German keyboard. No problems at all.
