Default New challenge: Fixing the GMA 950 - 02-07-2009, 06:02 PM

I have stumbled on this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... 340&st=240

I think there my be a way to fix our 950 by applying a patch to the dsdt.aml file.

I have tried all sort of combination but no luck so far. If you guys want to try too maybe we can figure out what the patch should be.

I have little experience with dsdt code but I am trying.

I'm confused, what is wrong with the GMA 950 that needs fixing? The only problem I've ever run across were some small artifacts being left behind by your cursor. But that's very rare, and hardly an big issue. Am I missing something?

Exactly that. I would like to go with a DSDT patch and be able to use the 10.5.6 kext instead of having to use older ones. It is cool that it work the way it does right now but I am always on the lookout to make things better... I have asked "Dr. Hurt" to look into my patch I made for dsdt.aml. Right now It will only make the card to show up in sys pref but QE/QI are not active...

OK, while waiting for a dsdt.aml patch I looked around and saw some 10.5.6 moded kext along with a gma 950 Natit.kext. I loaded that on my Dell Mini 9 and so far I have not seen any traces of artifacts. I get full hardware acceleration too!

I will build a new version of DellEFI that will include those new kernel extensions for those brave enough to test!

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread but does the DellEFI solve the artifact problem? I'm using the Type11 Install right now but will jump over to DellEFI if it does. Thanks.

I am using DellEFI and I havent noticed any artifact issues in the 4-5 days since I first installed. Not sure if I am doing the things that would be causing such issues, however.

Yes Honestly, the "Type11 Method" is becoming outdated and has not been updated in ages. I would never use another method besides the DellEFI... it is actively worked on and supported and is always getting improvements to make little things better and better.

Thanks for the reply guys. So if I change to DellEFI does that mean reformatting and reinstalling the OS? BTW, the new forums look really nice

The video artifacts are a bit annoying. Will the artifacts ever be fixed?

I suspect you could just run Dellefi and it would fix the graphics... Take a good backup first. Time Machine works great for that.
