I updated the french mini keyboard layout with ukelele. The ESC key is working now.

I just tried to make a Norwegian layout with ukelele. Followed the instructions, dropped the file in keyboard layouts, it came up in international/keyboard input, I checked the box, and it appears in the menu bar. But, alas, when I choose it the keyboard is completely dead! Same thing happened when I tried with one of the UK layouts that was posted here.

Any ideas as to what the trouble might be?

Edit: It works now, the only problem is that the delete key refuses to be reassigned, even though ukelele says it is.

Wow, I haven't looked at this thread in months, I had no idea anyone ever replied to it! Anyway, in Leopard you don't need double command to switch around the Command and Option keys. That can be done right in System Preferences. Open the "Keyboard & Mouse" pref pane, click on the "Keyboard" tab, and click the "Modifier Keys…" button. However, the Windows key is where the Option key belongs and and the Alt key is where the Command key belongs, so I just physically swapped the keycaps.

Hi

I'm about to ask for what is in all probability a very obvious fix; I'm, in UK, want to install a UK keyboard map, have followed these instructions (copied from an earlier post)

How to install:
• Drop mini.keylayout in /Library/Keyboard Layouts/
• Open International pane in System Preferences
• Open Input Menu tab
• Check box next to "Mini" layout
• Check box next to "Show input menu in menu bar"
• Logout and back in (not required, but this seemed to get rid of a few bugs for me)

but like others before me find that when the mini keyboard map is selected no keys respond at all. I've logged out, rebooted and even restarted the finder but to no avail..

thanks for all your help, great work guys!

iain

Here's a replacement for the default custom keyboard icon for UK keyboards:

  • Unzip the attached .icns file and drop it in your Keyboard Layouts folder
  • Rename the .icns file to match the name of your .keylayout file
  • Logout/login to activate the new icon.

bzylg -

Very many thanks, this worked nicely for me.
I had to reboot for it to appear in the International settings panel.
