OK, the missing key bugged me and I bit the bullet and replaced the kext into the 7b of DELLEFI

See: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3265&p=27686#p27686 for details

This now gives me the UK layout as per Dell, with an active \| key to the right of the spacebar

Hi,

I got my new mini 9 all tricked up with OSX yesterday. And this thread was my first stop. However I cant seem to get this working. Whenever I add a new keyboard layout I cant use the keyboard for typing. The Fn Keys all work but I have to revert back to the British keyboard layout before I can do anything.

I've tried logging out and back in, I've tried restarting anyone else having the same problem or is it just me?

I used the most recent DELLEFI method with an old copy of 10.5 I had.

Help?

Running OSX. All I want is to swap the : button to the right of the L with the " and " button all the way down next to the space bar. Is this something anyone could assist me with accomplishing, it'd save me alot of accidental typos

Thank you Viscaria for all this

I made the swaps. I found that I use +\= far less than I use :\; though so I put the :\; up top and +\= down at the bottom as I feel the higher positions are better.
Its to much of a pain to make smiley faces ": )" "; )" with those keys way down at the bottom hehe

Here is my new layout

While I haven't made a change this drastic I have remapped the windows key (option in OS X) to Command/Apple using a free Mac utility called DoubleCommand. Works like a charm and is very straightforward.

How do you install these? I drop the mini_UK in the Keyboard Layouts folder in my ~/Library and I can select it in the keyboard input Preferences panel, but when selected, all keys are dead.

Thanks

OK, I figured it out... you need to restart any application for it to see the new kb. Even the finder.

The mini_uk2 is almost perfect... except for the backslash/pipe key on the left of the space bar.

I have a Japanese keyboard and have been banging my head trying to figure out why my Keyboard Viewer says I have a US one. Is it because of the DellEFI? Has anyone come up with a Japanese layout?

Well, I found a temporary solution.

http://mac.hitobashira.org/up/src/maka0116.zip

Put the Wind.layout in your /Library/Keyboard Layouts directory. The problem with it is that the switch to kana button doesn't work and there is no short cut key. It seems you have to move the mouse and make the switch by hand.

Also found this kext.

http://cid-c0bfca211205a820.skydrive...apanese-v2.zip

I replaced this with the one in DellEFI and ran Reinstall Dell Mini 9 Extensions, but this didn't do anything. Maybe the ApplePS2Keyboard-Japanese-v2.zip file is wrong. If the correct one can be found and the kana switch button works, that would be awesome.
