Default how to install iLife & iWork 09 on Leopard 10.5.5 - 02-03-2009, 02:18 PM

I am enjoying running iLife and iWork 09 on my Mac Pro (08), MacBook, and my Dell mini9 all which update to the current version 10.5.6 However, I have two desktops (Compaq, Dell) and a Toshiba laptop running iATKOS v5. I dual boot all these with XP and did not want to break them by updating to 10.5.6. In addition I still wanted to update to the new iLife and iWork 09 editions so here is what I did.

You have to manually change the system version of your OSX by editing the .plist with a text editor.
To do so, do the following:

Go to System/Library/CoreServices, then you will see SystemVersion.plist, copy it and paste it on your desktop or documents.
I suggest you also make a backup just to be sure. (#1 noob rule I learned)
Then open the plist from your desktop, documents (or place where you have it) and where the string is that has your system version -> 10.5.5 for example, change it to 10.5.6.
The version should appear twice in the plist, so change both.

(see attached screencap for example).

Then save the plist and paste/replace it over the old systemversion.plist, put in your password, and check your "about this mac" to verify. (you may have to attempt it twice to overwrite I have noticed sometimes it wont do it on the first attempt.) Then install iLife or iWork and you'll be fine! I have used this on my other 4 hackintosh's that are running iAtkos v.5 which is Leopard 10.5.5

I have even left it although, I have no idea if this is "proper" or if it will break anything or not and please do at your own risk. I am a TOTAL noob to OS X and hackintosh however, I can say that it is working for me and have no issues "yet".

Hmm thanks! I tried to install ilife on my desktop hackintosh and says it required 10.5.6 and stopped. Any reason why ilife09 requires 10.5.6?
