Question Can't install MAC OSX 10.6.3 (unvisible hdd) - 09-20-2011, 01:40 AM

Hi, I want to install MAC OSX 10.6.3 on my Dell Mini 1010, but can't it, because my internal hdd is unvisible. I'm formated my USB-flash (8 Gb) at Masterboot mode and used Mac OS Extended (Journaled) file system, after it, I restored my Mac OS X 10.6.3 Retail image into my USB-flash, and used NetbookBootMaker 0.8.4 RC1, Loding is good, but at Disk Utility screen i can't see INTERNAL HDD (default WD 160 Gb), how i can do it? please, help me...

Awkwardly enough, I'm in the exact same situation. I've done 3-4 different tutorials in this forum, and searched my heart out, but I can't find the solution.
I'm using the 1010, netbookmaker 0.8.4 RC1, Mac OS X 10.6.0.

One user recommended to install to the harddrive using external interface (i.e. usb external enclosure), then once complete put the drive back into the internal slot. I can install, and boot!, to the drive if it's in the external enclosure only by using netbookmaker as the startup device and choosing the external drive to boot. But once put back into internal interface the drive kernal panics or i get the "broken folder" icon if using netbookmaker to boot.

Either way, I'm at a lose. Any tips would be appreciated. I've tried upgrading the netbookmaker to 0.8.5 once running in external drive mode. Still nothing.

Try giving it a partition in Linux or Windows assuming this is a new drive that has never been partitioned. Iit seems like I had this problem on my 1011 when creating a triple boot and there had to be an existing partition to even see it.

Have you checked the BIOS to see if it recognizes the drive? It should appear on the first screen after you press the F2. I had a drive in my 10v that was not even recognized by the BIOS and therefore no OS install would see it either.

Have tried with partition already created. The drive is visible in BIOS no problem.

i know i ran into this issue at some point. but can't remember quite how i solved it.

my default reaction would be to use GParted (linux; Parted Magic), to reformat the crap out of the drive. ALWAYS back up of course.

specifically, i would delete each partition and leave the entire drive as "raw space." Commit the changes. and then format the drive to fat 32. seems to me that format is easiest for the installer to recognize. once that's done, if the installer does see the drive, of course you'll have to use Disk Utility and format to mac os X extended journaled (default Mac format) in order to install to the drive.

it is key to commit the drive to raw space in order for all current partition table information to be deleted, and a new partition table to be generated when you go back and format to fat 32.

hope that helps.

cheers.

This may or may not help, but have you guys checked which partition scheme you used when you partitioned your drives? I only ask because when I got my brand new Runcore IV SSD drive, it was pre-partitioned for Windows (I think NTFS) and so it was using the MBR partition scheme. However, Mac OS X requires the drive to be partitioned using the GUID partition scheme.

If that was the case, the hard drive should be visible, only we'll get unsupported partition scheme message or something like that.
