But, if you are using your USB installer with the older version of NBI, can it actually do a proper repair of permissions.
I understand doing it from disc with a Mac, but I've never tried it on any of my Hackintoshes.
My installer was made using the 10.6.0 disc and NBI 0.8.4 final I think, but in order to get 10.6.7 to run I had to use the "special" NBI.
I'm just wondering if the version on the installer matters when doing a permissions repair.
I'll try it on my mini 9 and see what happens.

OK, I ran mine from the installer and it found 2 issues. I ran it again from the installer and it found no repairable issues (just the modification to System/Library/CoreServices from the 10.6.1 update that can't be changed).
I then re-started the mini 9 and booted into the OS X 10.6.7 install and ran disk utilities and had it repair permissions again and it found 8 variances having to do with the java update I installed last week. These weren't seen when running disk utilities from the USB installer.
I'm running the same test now on the 10v.

OK, I just completed the test on my 10V, also running 10.6.7 which I have never run Repair Disk Permissions on, ever.
From the USB installer, it found close to 100 variances, but it did seem to lock up. I moved the cursor around and went from no findings to Repair Permissions Complete.
I ran it again from the installer and again it locked up mid test, but this time it found nothing but the modified System/Library/CoreServices that got modified after 10.6.1.
I booted into the 10.6.7 install and ran Disc Utilities and again Repair Disk Permissions, and it found an additional 15 variances, again all having to do with the recent Java update.
I think I'll continue to Repair Disk Permissions from within the OS X install
