Default A DATA 16gb SDHC died? My fault? - 01-11-2009, 07:02 PM

Hey guys!

I recently tried to access my SDHC card after sleeping the mac (7.7 iso and 10.5.6 installed). It was still mounted on the desktop, but when I tried to access it just didn't work. I tried disk utility, which would show the card but said it wasn't mounted. When I tried to repair it, it just failed with a file system corruption or disk failure in red.

Did I do something to cause this or did I just end up with a crappy SDHC card?

Thanks again ,

Sorry I don't have any ideas for you but now you got me worried, I just ordered the same card from Newegg today, hopefully it's not a bad batch. Anybody else using this card?

I have this same card (bought for $24 on special at Newegg!) and it works fine after sleep.

Have you tried rebooting? It's possible that the driver thought you ejected the card while you were asleep and shut down to avoid corrupting data. Alternately, put the card in an external USB reader and see if that works.

Tried both. Even tried it in a different computer. Disk Utility says it's corrupted or failed beyond repair.

My guess is a bad card. I have seen that once with a defective CF card.

I'll try the PC thing. You never know.

Thanks guys,

I have a 16gb SDHC card, a Transcend brand one, also from Newegg. The exact same thing happened to me today on my Mini 9 running Type11 7.7. I couldn't repartition it in OSX, either in the built-in reader or in a usb reader. As a last shot I booted from a thumbdrive with ubuntu linux and it WAS able to partition and format the card. I rebooted back to OSX and formatted it GUID and all seems well now.

Last week the same thing happened to me on the SSD drive and I had to use the XP installer disks to partition it. Could it be that there is an issue with Type11 installs corrupting flash media in a way that OSX can't recover from or even repartition. I hope not, but if there are others out there seeing this please speak up so we can identify it.
