Unhappy Have to manually enable wireless each boot? - 01-11-2009, 06:10 AM

Got everything working wonderfully, other than some minor wifi problems:
1) Each time I reboot, I have to go into the Network prefs and manually Turn AirPort On and choose my wifi network, after which it works fine
2) The "Show AirPort status in menu bar" doesn't work - it doesn't appear to see the wifi card and show signal strength. In my menubar there's just the disabled antenna and it shows "AirPort: Not Configured" when I click it even though wireless is working fine.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Try deleting the network preferences in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration.
That is a common diagnostic step when diagnosing network issues on real macs

No dice - after deleting the prefs and rebooting I see the same issue.

Even after I turn it on, the menubar icon doesn't see it:

Re-run the miniscript from the Type11 disk, reboot without -f.

make sure you delete these files and then restart
because i see ethernet 1 on there i know the files have not been reset. OSX will just make Ethernet, not Ethernet 1. Then configure Airport and then restart again and see if it sticks

Tried that, both doing a new install and doing upgrade but still get the same issue.

On a whim I deleted the interface completely, rebooted, then added it back and rebooted and it now appears to be working fine. The menubar icon works, and it auto-joins my wifi network after a reboot. Seems to have been an OS X problem, not an issue with the kexts etc.

Thanks very much for your help guys!

Ah, I hadn't deleted the preferences.plist, just the airport, network.id, and networkinterfaces before. Anyway, all set now, most likely deleting the interface by hand had the same effect. Thanks again!

I'm having a similar problem with not being able to turn on airport. When I delete those five files and reboot, the airport icon disappears completely from the bar at the top of the screen. I've tried reinstalling the Mini9 drivers from the Dell EFI, Reinstalling OSX, and deleting just the preferences file in the library. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks!

I am having the exact same issue, though I have not reinstalled the OS X, I have however reinstalled the DellEFI. I was however able to get the System Profiler to fin the card, it says now under Network->Airport Card: Wireless Card Type: Thirs Party Wireless Card , I am NOT able to turn it ON however!

Anyone?
