I ordered a 1011 on eBay. This is the one I bought: Dell Dell Inspiron Mini 1011 Ice blue - eBay (item 270627770509 end time Sep-03-10 12:38:28 PDT)

It came, and I went into setup for it. There I found it was actually a 1010.

What are my options? I was really, really counting on installing OSX.

I think your best bet is going to be contacting the seller and explain the situation. You don't have to mention that you wished to turn it into a hackintosh, a simple argument could be that the 1010 does not allow you to upgrade the RAM, while the 1011 you can upgrade to 2gb. Maybe they will exchange for a 1011 or refund you your money.

If that doesn't work you could pretty much take the loss, file a complaint, and leave them negative feedback over the issue. It sucks but only so much that ebay will do =\

It's not your fault they didn't list their product correctly and the seller is at fault in this situation. Hopefully they just do the right thing and work with you.

I contacted the seller and we ended up working out a deal to exchange it for a Nickelodeon 1011. I am not jazzed about the color scheme but I guess I could always put a skin on it. Anyway, what really matters to me is compatibility with OSX.

The seller ended up being really good about working out the issue and apologized profusely. Another nice thing is that the replacement will have a 6 cell battery.

Thats great news! As for the nickelodeon edition, well mine just came in today and I pretty much have plans on putting a skin on it as well. It is ugly but easily disguised.
