Default NBI - backwards compatible? - 09-10-2010, 08:34 PM

I am still fence-sitting about whether or not to upgrade to 10.6.4 since 10.6.3 works so well.

In another thread underwhelmed suggested that NBI's were backwards compatible and wrote the following:

They are all backwards compatible AFAIK.
Update SL from 10.6.1 directly to 10.6.4 or 10.6.3?

Does anyone know if NBI's are, in fact, backwards compatible?
Even if I don't do the upgrade now, it probably makes sense to download and run the newest NBI if this is the case.

underwhelmed - in case you read this, I don't want you to think I don't value your answer.
It's your "AFAIK" which makes me feel you aren't certain. As always, thanks for your continued help!

ermmm nope not really, the latest NBI is a work around that expands the default loader boot files volumes but effecting audio load, and shouldn't be used for lesser OSX steps.. other than that yes the latest official NBI is safe for any prior version of OSX6.4 with auto attachment of Atom CPU kext..

No steps involved. Just thinking to do what underwhelmed suggests of downloading and running the NBI in the 10.6.4 update thread on my 10.6.3 minimac, so when I do come to do the update it'll be there and I won't screw up, which I'm not at all likely to do anyway.
