Default Dell TV Tuner for Mini... will it work with os x? - 01-09-2009, 04:55 PM

I hope so. It's cheap($50), small(thumb size), and has an antenna built in.

Hopefully it's small enough to fit inside the mini connected to a hub or something.

Probably not. You would have to get Elgato's EyeTV and then also make sure the USB stick is also compatible.

Even if you could mount it inside the Mini, which I doubt, what are planning to do about the antenna?

Think I'll stick with my Hauppauge USB tuner which also can decrypt ClearQAM, has a better antenna inlcuded and support for real external antenna as well...

What about if we didn't care about trying to mount it inside. What if we used it as intended and just plugged it into a USB port. Any ideas on if it would work with OS X or does it require some Windows Mojo?

Doubt it...MAC specific tuners generally cost 2x as much as their Windows counterparts...

I am guessing the in built one on the 10" would probably suffer for OS X drivers too

Oh well, if I ended up with one could always go the multiboot method on that one too lol

If the 10" has the rumored GMA500, those are the drivers it'd be suffering without.. You get just about zero video support in OSX when you don't have graphics drivers loaded.

EyeTV Hybrid works with the Mini9Mac.

Just tried it with v.3.0.4.

I was really considering buy the EyeTV Hybrid but I have a question that I can't seem to find a solid answer for.
Does the Hybrid "NEED" and external antenna attached to it? Or does that just improve its ability to receive TV signals?

I want to get it for watching ATSC HDTV and I don't really want to accommodate for ugly Rabbit Ears on my Desk

Thanks!
