I agree it would be a little small for doing some serious work on like hammering out thousands of words. The trackpad also bugs me but you can use a mouse of course.

Camino is actually quite popular, I'm always surprised when I mention Camino on a Mac site as to the number of people who pipe up saying they use it as well.
I used to think it was rather obscure.
But that is because scripts that are used to detect which browsers and operating systems people use detect Camino as a version of firefox.
I just tried one and it came back with this:
"You're using Firefox 3 on Mac!"
So these statistics are flawed - not that it matters to me.

Camino is actually the only browser that works on all web sites I regularly visit and it has the features I need. It has one annoying flaw when you copy and paste, but once you know that there is an easy work-around.
I have tried Firefox, Safari, iCab, Opera, Chrome, SeaMonkey and Shiira.
They all have their issues (for me!)

The display problem I have is not Camino specific - tried it with Safari and I have the same issue. The dropdown menu has to be in a specific area of the screen for this to occur - it's almost as if the software that controls that function assumes there is at least a 13-inch screen so it displays to the right based on that information even though there is no screen real estate there on the Mini.
It's a bit of an obscure problem.
My point really was that if were using the computer for something as important as school, I would want to minimize the risk that something goes haywire.
The Mini is not a computer with all the same hardware components that Apple uses and there are bound to be incompatibilities at some point.
Depends what you use it for.
That's all I wanted to point out

I use a mouse with the 10v for that reason but I don't know if that is practical for the OP.
When I went to McGill, the large lecture halls had chairs with these little tables or no tables at all - using a mouse there wasn't really an option.

Just to add a little bit more on browsers.
I used to use Camino and only Camino. Safari never worked well for me nor for my husband, neither on our desktops nor on the MBP. I don't even bother with the updates for Safari anymore.

Once we tried Firefox with WOT and NoScript add-ons, however, we became converts to Firefox and no longer use Camino.

And mice:
We got a nifty little Kensington wireless mouse with a nano USB receiver, less expensive elsewhere, but here's a link to take a look at the thing at Kensington's homepage: Wireless Mouse for Netbooks - K72349US - Kensington

We have 10 Macs in the immediate family, parents and four kids, and most have a desk top and a lap top.
Almost everyone uses Firefox as the browser, one uses Safari and I'm the only one with Camino.
I also have Safari and Firefox on the Mac now and use that for testing if required - tried most of the other ones like Shiira, iCab, SeaMonkey etc. but always came back to Camino.
I think the issue I have with firefox is that it doesn't allow for multiple lines in the bookmark bar.

As to the Mouse - does anyone know if a standard BT mouse will work with the Mini 10V?

Just to be certain, and this is probably a stupid question on my part, but did you get a mini with BT? You don't include this kind of info in a signature, so it's hard to tell for sure.

If the answer is yes, and I assume it must be or you wouldn't be asking, I've read here somewhere about folks using BT mice with no trouble (as long as the BIOS were correctly adjusted, I believe) others will probably chime in here if I'm incorrect.

Not a dumb question at all.
I'm too Mac-centric; since all recent Mac laptops always include BT and wireless I don't think about that any more.
In fact, when I bought this Mini I made that decision very quickly since the auction was about to end.
Key criteria were a 10v, large hard drive and a Canadian seller.
Then when I received it, I was worried for a while that it may not even have WiFi on it - it came with Linux and all the still sealed Windows disks.

But the BT icon shows up and BT hardware shows up insystem profiler, so I think I'm good to go.
