If you have an updated version of Mac OS X which needs a special NBI (like 10.6.4 needs this one) installed on your system and somehow you lose chamaleon, here is what you need to do:

Download proper NBI and copy it somewhere you can reach (like in a hfs partition on your disk or in an usb stick etc.). I had my proper NBI file in my Downloads folder on my disk so I pass this step.
Run Mac OS X Installer as explained in this page.
Select your language and press Enter.
Click on “Terminal� which is in the Utilities menu.
Get into the directory which contains NBI you need to run. (### shows the version number)

cd /Volumes/<The disk and directory which contains NBI>/NetbookInstaller ###.app/Contents/MacOS/

6. Show me the contents of this directory:

ls

7. You should see these two files now:

NetbookInstaller	NetbookInstallerCLI

8. Then it's time to run NBI:

./NetbookInstaller
