Default Installing OS X on a Toshiba netbook - 05-23-2010, 03:19 AM

Hello, I'm Calla. I, almost desperate to learn how to install OS X on my Toshiba netbook, saw a youtube video that said that this site had a lot of information and guides on how to install OS X on netbooks. Here is what I understand:

Is it basically, this:

1. Insert some boot disk.

2. Put in the OS X disk.

Is that basically all? Also, where do I get a boot disk? I don't think I can make one.

This site specializes in Dell computers only so you may have better luck on a different site that works on Toshibas.

Try this first.

Mac OS X Leopard on Toshiba NB205 Netbook - Hackint0sh

Then post there if you still have questions.

You might get some help here, you'll need to understand that ALL netbooks can't install OSX. With that in mind, you could put your netbook's complete technical specifications up here and see what happens. Good luck!

Thanks for your help. To clarify something, if my netbook can be "hackintoshed", is it basically inserting a DVD/CD and then that is all, or what?

No, it is more complicated than that. There are guides here, but I will comment that many people have difficulty with the process, there are many things that can go wrong, and you need to have at least a basic understanding of how to troubleshoot problems and use some of the more esoteric Mac OS commands to fix issues.

Even more important, you have to stay aware of Apple updates and whether or not they can be safely applied to your system. Many people disregard this and end up with an unbootable netbook.

It sounds as if you want something easy and low-maintenance. Hackintoshing isn't that.

Just because you have read, or heard your netbook can be "Hackintoshed" does NOT mean it can. Put up your specs, and get an answer. But it is completely true that if you expect it to be effortless, you might (will) be disappointed. And there are a few limitations, no matter which netbook you choose. The best course of action might be to check out a youtube video, or two, or three.

Well, at least start by telling us the exact model of Toshiba netbook you have. We can get the specs from that.

I have a Toshiba netbook NB205.

Here is what I get.

I have seen two Gizmodo tutorials, one ofr Dell mini9 and one ofr Dell mini 10v. I'm not so much of a noob anymore. I get it. But one, which one do I use, if either. THe problem is that those are the most compatible. I don't have either of those netbooks.

I checked out the hackint0sh.org link. I read through it, and the links that were helpful have been removed.

Pick up a 910 or 1011 from the Outlet, that will make the process a whole heaping easier.

Have you had a look at insanelymac ? A difficult site to find what you want, in my experience, but a large community of hackintoshers that have attempted to install OS X on many platforms. You may find someone who has tried with your machine.

Another link that might be helpful.
