Instructions:

Place file in /Library/Keyboard\ Layouts
Go to System Preferences / International
Click Input Menu
Select 'mini'
On the top menu, change from [whatever] to mini.
Uncheck 'Show input menu' in System Preferences / International / Input Menu.

Rip ; and ' keys off keyboard.
Swap locations.
has anybody tried this?
Worked for me except now it won't let me type anything in the search bar in the Finder windows.
If I switch back to US it works. :?

Well i just successfully swapped the ; and " keys with Ukelele and the layout posted a few pages back.

I also successfully physically swapped them, easy as pie. You dont just rip them off, you have to get something thin, i used a nail file, and push the top of one side in enough to unclip it, then the other side unhooks and you can snap the bottom of the key out.

That probably makes NO sense what so ever but it does in my head lol.

I really like the mini.keylayout install. It took a reboot for it to finally work, but it is awesome. While at my office, I use an Apple Bluetooth aluminum keyboard (the short one) and find that I need to revert back to the US keyboard because the keys are swapped there, too; if using an outboard keyboard, you'll need to leave both "US" and "mini" in the menu bar. They swap nicely on the fly when needed.

Just to have the ' and ; swapped has made using the Mini much more comfortable. This is the best fix yet in terms of efficiency. Thanks.

can someone tell me where to get the starting US keyboard file to modify in ukelele?

I look in my libraries and on the ukelele disk, and there's nothing in my keyboard library, and lots of nonUS keyboards in the ukelele folders.

thanks

Pinging this thread. the Cswap file listed is gone I tried Ukelele but ... damn It made no sense to me. My resultant keymap didnt seem to work as I'd hoped. Really want ~ on shift-esc .

Anyone have a keymap made with Ukelele and a pointer about it's use?

Used to have the cswap file, but lost it in a ssd crash. Does anyone have a cswap file they can donate?

i just remapped my keyboard and swapped the apostrophe and colon. remapping was easy and i didn't use whatever that cswap file was. i used ukulele and created a new layout by copying the existing one. just changed those 2 keys, following the instructions for installation and restarted. works like a charm. to swap the keys themselves i took the keyboard out, pried up the bottom of the key and there are 2 little snap in tabs you force out. not too hard, just be careful and take your time.

yay! i'm very happy with this. i had gotten used to moving down to hit the ' so now i need to get used to typing like a normal person again.
