My experiences with OS X (Hackintosh or real Mac) and Windows file sharing have been sketchy at best. It seemed to work well in 10.5.8 and lower if I recall correctly. It would show my network PC's in the sidebar and would connect just fine.
Unfortunately, once I upgraded to 10.6, it seems to have bit the bullet somehow. I can still manually connect to PC shares via "Connect to Server...", or Command+K in Finder, and entering "SMB://PCNAMEorIP", however, they will no longer automatically show in the sidebar like they should. And if they do, it's completely randomly whenever it wants to show them. I've done a bit of reading and believe it's something to do with DNS/Bonjour, but have yet to pinpoint what the actual problem is.
Give Command+K a try and see if you can connect manually.
