Greetings, just ordered a 10v a few weeks ago and after being delayed back 3 or 4 times Dell outlet has finally shipped it and it will be here tomorrow. I'm pretty excited.

Anyways, i've tried searching about for info on the 10.6.3 update and what not, and there is tons of it, but heres the problem. So, after reading one of the many great how to install OSX guides, i went over to the apple website, and ordered a retail install disc. On the website, its listed as 10.6, not the combo update 1.1v or whatever i've ready about, so i paid the 30 bucks and got it shipped to me (figured paying for the OS was the honest thing to do). Anyways, that just got here today, and i open the package it came in up, and what do i get, the *NEW* 10.6.3 Version. So, it's only reasonable that they would ship a new version of the OS when they release an update for it, duh, wasn't thinking, although it seemed clear that it was NOT 10.6.3 when i ordered it, rather just 10.6

So, where does this leave me? Do i follow the guides/instructions as usual? Carry on with no worries? I noticed lots of them say that you need to apply the updates after the fact, but i dont know where to start then since if i can't get a 10.6 disc from apple. I'd really prefer not to bittorrent anything. Suggestions?

You will need to follow the instructions, but use the newest version of NBM/NBI to do your install with.

As long as if you use NBI 0.8.4 RC1, you shouldn't have any problems using the 10.6.3 disk.

Could someone give some step by steps on how to get NBI 0.8.4 RC1 on a flash drive from windows. I do have a machine here with 10.5.7 on it but when I try to run the netbookmaker it fails and asks me to report or relaunch. Any help would be much appreciated.

I was following the instructions NetbookInstaller 2: USB Mac Installation via Any Operating System | Guides | OS X | mechdrew. However the retail version i just bought is 10.6.3 and I get a kernal panic after selecting the mac osx install dvd. Is there an image of 0.8.4 like the image mechdrew provides for 0.8.3?

Not at this time, you have to use guide 1 to create a 10.6.3 patched installtion or buy a SL 10.6 DVD to install

I also just got the 10.6.3 DVD. My problem is that NBI 8.0.4 wont run on my mini 9 that is running 10.5.6. and the older NBI 8.0.3 which will run, wont patch the 10.6.3.

I have a XP PC as well but no 'rail' Mac.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thank you much everyone for the replies, i've just finishes getting my USB drive set up and am preparing to start the install process. I will post how things go when it's finished!
