Default Running Linux Binary Files/Executable Files in OS X - 03-31-2010, 02:24 PM

I Have looked all over the internet and have been unable to find this. I have looked into Fink and MacPort. Maybe someone has run into this issue. I am taking a class where we need to run some linux programs but do not want to install ubuntu on my mini 10v. is there a program similar to DosBox, to run linux executable files/binary files in OS X, I understand that OS X is unix but uses a different compiler than Linux but is there anyway to work around that?

If you don't want Linux on your hard drive, you could use Linux on a USB drive or SD card (I think the 10v can boot off SD).

As for running ELF (basically Linux .exe) x86 binaries while booted into OSX, I don't know of anyway simpler than running full Linux in a virtual machine. But I'm not an OSX user, so I might just be ignorant of a better solution.

OS X, though it shares many similarities to Linux, is not Linux. Most code will require some tweaking to port.

You can run Linux in something like Sun's free Virtual Box VM.
