Hi, my hackintoshed, via NBI 0.8.3, Dell Mini 10V has been working great except for this error that occurs once and then.

Here's a picture of the message: IMG_7044.jpg (image)

I can't actually pinpoint any specific tasks or other factors that might cause it.

Do you experience it once and then as well?

Regards,

Carl.

Carl,

1. Welcome aboard

2. The problem you describe is called a "kernel panic". It's the Mac OS X equivalent of a blue screen. I can't say what's causing it, but if you search the forum for "kernel panic", I'm sure you'll find some leads.

It happened to me once since I installed OSX a few days ago. I was playing a Xvid video with quickview, force quit it because it froze half way through. Bam, kernel panic!

Hi,

I have experienced this on my Mini 9 when I had 10.5.7 and now while I have 10.6.2.

With me it happens once every 10 or 15 startups!

I found that if I disable the onboard LAN (the wired ethernet adapter) through the BIOS it does not happen. I think someone mentioned it on this board a long time ago.

Of course once you do that, you can't use an ethernet cable unless you go back and enable it again through the BIOS. But wifi is everywhere now, so it's not a big deal for me, and when I have the occasional need (rarely), I just go and enable it again for a while.

Give it a try and see. Please let us know how it goes.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the answers .

You could go check the logs (via Console app) for panics/crash reports. May be something there that would mention specific driver kext to help you figure out what's causing the probs. I get (or used to, before I stopped using it), regular panics on real MBP due to some nasty driver from a 3G USB dongle!

Just got my first KP while browsing the internet and writing in Word. Incidentally, I had a 60 day uptime, so I have no idea what caused it.

It happens to me while starting up (OS X Loading, with the white screen and the Apple logo), before I get to the desktop.

Sorry Wooster, is that where it happens or do you get a KP while you're working?

The trick I mentioned above cured my start up crashes. KP's while working are a different matter I believe.

Happens to me occasionally, when I resume from sleep. I usually just close the lid for sleep

Default Happened Once Two Days Ago - 03-28-2010, 02:11 PM

I had my first kp two days ago during startup (apple logo).

When I rebooted, I did so into single user mode and ran fsck. The directory did have a least one error that was fixed.

I obviously can't tell if the directory error caused the kp or if the kp caused the directory error.

My previous shutdown included closing the lid before the shutdown was 100% complete, so that could have been the cause.

I'm running 10.6.2 on a 10v and had about 60 days before this first kp.
