Default Dell Wireless 5530 Card - 02-25-2010, 01:01 PM

I have a Dell Studio 14z dual booting with Windows 7 & Snow Leopard. I'm posting to this site for the first time today because I know a lot of these Dell Minis came with WWAN cards installed, so I know that someone has this up and running with OSX.

Now, it may work. I just don't know yet, because Dell was cheap and didn't install the antenna's for WWAN in my notebook, like they used to in the Inspirions. Who knows, maybe they still do. Anyway, I had to order a new LCD cover, which comes with both sets of antennas and I'll install that when it get's here early next week.

My question is, does any body know for sure how to set it up to work on SL with AT&T, and if so, what are the carrier settings?

Also, two other issues. SL detects my WWAN card as two modems. I also have an express card 3g device which it recognizes differently. I like the way it recognizes the expresscard, because it gives me signal strength in the menu bar, wheresa with the 5530, it only shows a modem icon. Is there any way to change the way it sees it?

Network settings, Dell 5530:

Note the check box "Show Modem status in Menu bar"

Network settings, Expresscard:

Note the check box "Show WWAN status in Menu bar"

Off topic, could you post how you installed SNL on a Dell Studio 14z?
