hi ,
im about to built a custom built 17" laptop , and i want it to run osx
but i dont have specific knowledge adout all the hardware name .
i know im not a the best place to ask this , but can someone point me in the right direction ?
here's what i would want
- quad core ( do they made they new xeon nehalem for laptop yet ?) i7 around 3ghz
- a motherboard that accept 8-16gb of ram
- a powerfull graphic card
- and all the high-en other stuff i dont know about
The reasons why i want a custom made laptop :
- instead of spending 3700$ on a mac , ill spend 3700$ on the best hardware i can put my hands on and i know it will be ( mutch ?) better than a mac
so enlighten me please a computer , some ram , a hdd , a screen , a wifi card , a webcam , a case , some other things and an operation system | | | | | Super Moderator

If you have $3700 to blow just buy a Mac.

Why not just go to the Tech Specs sections of the Apple websites for the Pro and the Macbook Pro and mix and match to get the specs you need?
Or wait to see what the new MBPs will be carrying, and mimic them.
As for getting it to work with OSX, unless you have some mad kernel coding and driver skills, you'll be up for a real challenge. And the whole EFI/boot-loader stuff. Mini 9 | OS X 10.6.2 | 2GB | 16GB STEC | .3Mp | No BT |
BIOS A05 | USB Legacy: ON | USB Wake: OFF | Bluetooth: OFF | NetbookInstaller .8.3 Final

Did you ask yourself why is it that those Apple engineers would not put a quad core and the top of the line graphic card on a laptop?
Either it would catch fire, you would catch fire or both would catch fire.
Bottom line, smart decision. Dell Vostro 1GB Ram - 16 GB HD - A04 - OS X.6.2 - RC4 - Sound works with AppleHDA.kext | | | | | Member

Just a thought.... but you might want to sign up for an Apple developer membership ($500) and use the hardware discount. It'll save you about $400 for the same configuration (plus, you get prerelease software and 10.7 for free when it comes out). | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
