Installed custom dsdt file and now computer won't start. How 2 remove? - 02-05-2010, 04:51 PM
I installed a custom dsdt file and my OSX machine won't boot. I can boot into my USB drive (what I sintalled OSX from) and am wondering if I can delete files from the HD using the utilities available in the install suite. I have terminal, disk utility, startup disk, etc.
I don't really know how to use terminal. Here's the file path of the bad file:
MSI WIND (the hard drive) // Extra // dsdt.aml

Thanks. cd/Extra yields "No such file or directory" and rm dsdt.aml gives the same response.
It seems like this terminal window only has access to the files on the USB boot drive and not the computer's HD.

Couldn't he just boot off his USB drive.......select his HD from the bootscreen......maybe use the -f -v flags or maybe -x to boot in safe mode.
....then once you're logged in.
Go to your /Extra folder and get rid of that dsdt.aml file.
I never ran into that trouble before.....but if anything, if you can get into safe mode [-x]......you could delete the "bad" dsdt.aml and replace with the correct one off the USB drive.

Even single user mode [-s] would let you run commands and fix your issue.

If he gets that far, then easy to remove the file via "rm" or even Finder when logged in as admin.
Or, if using the install USB, should be able to bring up a termninal window and go to the Mini's SSD and do an "rm" (maybe even Finder?).
And: no matter what, either via USB or a local copy, run Netbook Installer on the Mini SSD and specify to generate an new dsdt.
