Default help! I think I really messed up - 02-02-2010, 02:04 PM

Good morning all,

My Hackintosh mini 9 has been running flawlessly for about a year now. My favorite device of all time. So good in fact that I neglected to move up to Snow Leopard and continue to run 10.5.8 without issue, till this morning.

This morning I decided (stupidly it seems) to update iTunes and OS X as recommended by Software Update. Upon restart; after 'loading Darwin/x86' the next line is a slash that seems to revolve a few times then moves to the Apple start-up screen. The wheel spins, the screen turns that pretty shade of blue, then it all goes bad. The screen becomes grey with a big black box outline that looks like it should hold important information about how I just messed up. It just sits there for a bit until I get the announcement that I should turn off the computer and try again.

As you can tell from my poor explanation of what happened I'm both incompetent and illiterate when it comes to this stuff. I'm just a user who love his hackintosh and needs some help. Any advise about how to rescue my little friend is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

After an OS update you should run NBI again, preferably before you let the OS restart.

If you still have the usb stick you used to install Leopard, try booting from that (enable usb legacy support in BIOS) and running NBI.

Later: You might do best to download and run the latest NBI (0.8.3 final). Afterward, disable usb legacy support and try rebooting normally from the HDD/SSD.

Thanks. I'll try it as soon as I get home later.

Does the NBI replace the DellMiniBoot/DellEFI/Syslink downloads I used to get this working originally?

I believe so (DellEFI was before my Mini days .. NBI is what I used).
