Default Install bootloader on thumbdrive - 01-28-2010, 01:49 PM

I used NBI method 2 to install OSX onto a 16 GB Sandisk cruzer, once it was installed I rebooted the computer to the NBI thumb drive it automaticly entered osx setup, not giving me the option to boot off of the thumbdrive.

I want to know how I can boot into the thumbdrive, so I can install the bootloader.

Thanks in advance

You have to enable usb legacy in your bios first.
After that, there's an option on bios startup that will let you choose the bootmedia (I think it's F12).

I had already enabled legacy USB support.

when I select the NBI thumbdrive it just takes me straight to the OSX installer, which i have already done.

Any suggestions?

NBI is in the Utilities menu. Boot in like you are going to install, and then click utilities at the top of the menu bar.

On the utilities menu I have the following choices: Startup Disk, Reset Password, Firmware Password Utility, Disk Utility, Termnal, System Profiler, Network Utility, and Restore System From Backup.
Am I doing something wrong?

I'm not sure, i followed the directions here: NetbookInstaller 2: USB Mac Installation via Any Operating System | Guides | OS X | mechdrew for windows, using win32diskimager to make the usb drive. I plugged in the drive powered on the the system and it went to the OSX installer screen, from there I proceeded to follow the directions and on the "first boot" portion I powered on the machine and chose to boot off of the NBI thumbdrive, then immediately I was taken to the OSX installer without being given the option to boot off of the drive I had just installed OSX to.

On your "first boot" did you remove the large USB drive and boot from the small one?

When I tried that the screen is gray and in the top left corner it says

Can't find mach_kernel

The text is flashing, but if I press the shift key it stops.
