Default Any SSD ok? - 01-27-2010, 03:23 AM

Hi Guys,
My brother is here on vacation with me in Japan and he fell in love with my DellMini9 OSX! Mine has a RunCore 32GB SSD installed and works great.

Unfortunately, the DellMinis we can find here all only have an 8GB drive. I know how to install on such a small drive, but he wants more space. I don't think we can find a RunCore drive here in Japan, so I wanted to ask if any SSD drive is ok. I can go to the electronics shop and pick one up, but worry if it will be ok.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

The Mini 9 takes a very specific kind of SSD - in the form factor of a 50mm MiniPCIe card. It is not the sort of thing you will find in a local shop.

There are several vendors of compatible cards: RunCore and SuperTalent are the two most popular. You will most likely have to order it online, unless you get lucky in BIC or something similar. The key is that the drive must claim that it supports the Mini 9, as that is unique.
