There's lots of speculation but no information out there about the announcement next week. Let's assume that it's the fabled iTablet. What do you think it's going to have for specs? What would it take for you to buy one? Would it replace your Mini?

My reaction to tablets is - meh. I like the touch interface on the iPhone, because of what it isn't, a tiny crippled keyboard. For me, with that small a form factor, it really works. At the scale of a tablet, I'd expect a keyboard. My mini, small though it is, allows me to really code in a pinch. The tablet feels like a bigger phone... and I'll sacrifice screen real estate for size in that product spot.

Plus: if the rumors are true that it's running iPhone OS, it becomes a lot less attractive to me due to you can't run "real" OSX apps on it.

I concur. Not interested.

I wish Apple would come out with a netbook of the same size as the DM9 or the 10v but with more processor power.

Like a MacBook nano. Or something.

Hard to bless or damn any product based on rumors. Not sure it's my cup of tea in any form, though my iPhone is always with me.

when it is too big to fit in your pocket and you need a bag to carry it why not use a netbook

the novelty of a tablet will wear off quick when all it can do is sit flat. unless you make some sort of stand like they do for the iphones.

I am an Apple fan and I am sure that Apple will have some tricks up their sleeve when they launch the "iTablet"... but I can already see some aspects that are unattractive to me personally :

1. Price : I understand the technology and hardware (rumored 10" OLED display) is expensive... but $999 for a tablet, forget it!
2. iPhoneOS-based : come on! a tablet should be able to run an OS that is more robust that a mobile operating system... yeah, iPhoneOS is great for iPhones but a tablet device should be able to run more complex applications while still implementing multitouch, gestures, and other advantages of being a tablet

As I said, I am sure Apple will make other announcements alongside their "iTablet" release that will make it more attractive, such as "eBook" stuff on iTunes [possibility??] I am also unaware of the technical specs of the iTablet so I cannot say whether that is a pro/con for me. No doubt, Apple will put out a product with a sexy design... but only time will tell the rest.

I think it's pretty clear that it won't be in the netbook space, and I'd expect it to be more of a consumer product.

Perhaps something along the lines of the Archos products?

But I think there will be content tie-ins which will give it an edge. Perhaps you'll be able to read your daily paper through it or download monthly magazines?

I can't see me getting one to replace my Mini 9, but I could see myself getting one to use in different situations to my Mini 9.
