pulisi,

Sorry I was out of town last weekend. Basically, you might read this post by anguish (a really great guide):
Triple Boot Videos and Guide Using Chameleon, OS X, Windows 7 & Ubuntu Netbook Remix

just follow his steps. The difference here is a windows 7 installed, instead of window xp. I guess it matters, because a disk partition tool in 7 (diskpart.exe) is needed in the dual/triple booting installation. IMO, windows 7 is as fast as xp, if not faster. The reason that I made triple booting system is because I'm more familiar with Linux than OSX and I'd like to use any one system when necessary.

Before you read that post, here I summarize some brief steps:

1. make installation usb drives (windows7, osx, ubuntu). In fact, this simple step took most of my time when made triple booting. Like for osx, I didn't try 0.8.4pre first, and got many no gos;

2. use osx usb drive first, to partition the harddisk into 3 partitions (fat, hfs+, and fat, in GUID mode, not MBR);

3. continue to install snow leopard on the hfs+ partition after partitioning. after rebooting, you should be able to enter osx. then update to 10.6.3 from software update. (note: there will be two new partition created after osx installed, one is 0byte partition, another is for netbook boot selection I guess)

4. after update, the mini reboots, and you might meet the kernel problem. so you just need to click the down arrow when you enter the boot screen and choose osx, and input "arch=i386_64". this is only good for one time. after entering osx, you need to modify plist to add this string. OK, now you already finish osx installation. restart the mini and insert the windows7 installation usb drive, and you will be led into window7 installation. choose the first FAT partition and use "advanced" option to format it into NTFS format. Then continue to install windows7 on this newly NTFS partition. It might disallow you to install at first, you only need to restart the mini and you can continue. After several restarts, you have also windows7 installed.

5. restart mini and boot from ubuntu usb drive. This is the easiest installation because it will not mess up with NTFS or HFS+ partition.

note: before and after windows 7 or ubuntu installed, you need to use diskpart several times to change active partition by using the windows 7 installation usb drive. also, you might need to deal with some small issues like installing NetbookInstaller. If you want to change the boot selection icons, search in this forum, there are some instructions to do so.

Now, go and read anguish's post carefully and good luck.

Let me know if you have any question. I could help on what I know.

Best,
Ming

thank you so much for the great posts/threads.

I managed to install Mac OS 10.6 in my new dell 1012. So far so good. (need to use NetbookInstaller 0.8.4, the 0.8.3 doesnt work)

Two questions though -

1. Do I require USB drive (where has NetbookInstaller 0.8.4 installed and OS DVD data) plugged in in order to boot up OS?
I found that if I remove USB drive from dell, I would not be able to boot and I would always get a kernel panic during OS boot up.

2. Is there a way to use an external display? the dell 1012 has an external display port, but I dont know how to reroute the signal to an external monitor.

Again, thank you so much for this great site!

I'm kinda confused because of conflicting posts. So is it possible to install osx on the 1012 if you have the atheros card or do you absolutely need the broadcom?

I am still having difficulty with freezing at diff points during install. have tried 10 times now and install has not finished a single time. has anyone used the NBM 0.8.4pre to successfully install? i am not sure what the problem is.
