Trackpad Preference Pane Restored ! - 12-20-2008, 03:53 PM
Used windosx86.iso, updated from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6 (via software update), restored the usual (keyboard, trackpad, video, smoothy's sound hack). Everything worked but lost trackpad preference pane.
Followed edowar's post on MSI Wind Forums:
http://forums.msiwind.net/mac/workaroun ... 39-20.html
Used keyboard preference from a 10.5.5 install
Repaired permissions with Disk Utility
Rebooted with -f
Trackpad options under keyboard preference RESTORED!
All is well again. Gotta love those crazy Wind Guys!

I love how there's always a work around when Apple tries to discontinue something. Just can't stuff the genie back into his bottle.

Ok I think I know what might be going on. If you read my old post it has a few details:
One thing to note, it seems like that side-scrolling is still working for me, with this disabled in the trackpad options. This wasn't the case on 10.5.5. I'm not sure why this might be, as it shouldn't make a hoot of a difference, since we are using a modified kext anyhow. Hrm...
In either case, you must be using the modified PS2 kext, or scrolling won't work at all. I would suggest either reverting to the old kext (my installer will do that for you) or installing the rest of the config files, including my startup items. This will get rid of the jumpy-ness.
